Belgo Centraal: where you should take big groups

When I think of Belgo Centraal the first thing that comes to mind is the word communal. It doesn't matter if you're seated in the beer hall or in the restaurant area. The long, wooden dining tables and loud convos from punters would definitely take you back to those carefree days at your school canteens and mess halls. Kinda like a Belgian Harry Potter Great Hall in a more alternative, industrial setting. And proper blonde beer, not butterbeer.

And then I think of moules et frites et biere - can't get any more Belgian than that. I don't, unfortunately, have lone photos of beer and double-cooked chips. Possibly because they are always consumed in a flash.

Provencalé Moules Kilo Pot (£12.95) - traditional steamed mussels with a rich tomato and garlic sauce. I can shamelessly finish this lot. The mussels are fat and fresh, just the way I like 'em.

Snob Moules Bowl (£12.50) - mussels in lobster, champagne and cream bisque. This is fairly good and the sauce is pretty decent too.

And then I think of big groups...
...especially The Filo Supper Club!

And then I think of all the other stuff we can eat...
Like lobsters. They did a month-long run for these claw daddies last summer. You get a full lobster with fries for £19.95. They don't serve whole lobsters anymore but you can still get half a lobster with your meal for an additional £10.

Angus beef burger (£9.95) - 7oz patty enveloped in sourdough bread and all the trimmings. I thought the bread was a bit too thick for my liking but hey. This comes with a bowl of fries and all the chutneys, jams and sauces you can think of. It's almost a DIY type of burger.

Beef short rib (£15.95) - slow cooked ribs served with a creaaaamy mash, honey glazed carrots and cabbage. This was a mammoth dish with a pretty decent sauce. It may as well pass off as something homecooked with lots of love and warmth.

Crispy pork belly (£14.50) - a good take on classic pub grub with decent crackling and pretty competent apple sauce. Served with creamed spinach and a fat serving of stoemp.

The servers have some sort of dry sense of humour (which I like) and they're very pleasant and happy to serve despite the busy atmosphere of the place.

So if you are thinking of a place to pre-tank with a group in Central London, I do suggest you check this restaurant. The atmosphere is good for it and they do have food that would suit everyone - think affordable, edible, shareable. It can get loud, but aren't groups meant to be anyway? It's not exactly fine dining but I assure you and your group could have a fine dining time.
