Six tracks for December 2013

Before everyone breaks off for the holidays, here's the last six-track playlist for the year. =)

Amber Run - Heaven
Starting the festivities with anthemic guitar rifts (you'd probably hear in soda or trainer adverts in the future) reminiscent of the early days of Coldplay, the commercialisation of Kings of Leon, and a little bit of the omniscience of Foal's Yannis Philippakis' voice. In love with this track. Have a listen and you might just be, too.

Haim - If I Can Change Your Mind

Super in love with the Haim sisters and their debut album Days Are Gone.

Say Lou Lou - Julian (The Chainsmokers Remix)
If I had a twin and if we can kind of sing, we'd probably start a little dream pop duo, get signed by Kitsuné  and practice like this. She can be the talented one who ends up with the solo career; I'll be the one who does the ad libs and ends up with a happy family and a happy non-showbiz life. Anyway, here's the original version of the song.


J.Viewz - Rivers and Homes
An oldie but goodie feel good tune. Wouldn't be surprised if this has been used in adverts in previous years, as it seems like one of those tracks that just emanate some sort of corporate feel.


Pharrell - Happy
It's been a crazy year aye? That said, despite all the despicable things my home country's gone through, the Filipinos have proven to be strong and resilient. Pharrell's tune off the Despicable Me 2 soundtrack tries to remind us a little bit about happiness. We need it every now and again. =)

Of course, here's my favourite non-traditional festive song of all time.

Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse: where date night got meaty

One thing I dislike about LDRs is that you don't get to go on dinner dates. When I go out for a meal, I'd take photos of my food so I can zap it to Plaid Boy and vice versa. It's a cute coupley thing to do, but it's not quite the same as getting a spoonful off your partner's plate for a proper taste is it? I'm glad I'm seeing him this weekend! I'm excited to have date night every night before we fly off to do wedding preps in Manila. =)

Last time I visited Singapore, Plaid Boy took me to Mohamed Sultan Road (again) to satisfy my hunger for meat. Veggie-feeders, I'm so sorry. You've got to look away (again).

Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse is a proper steakhouse upped by a little fancy dust. The mood was very masculine when we walked in: bull hide on the floors, heads mounted on wood panelled walls, leather upholstered waiting chairs and rows of wine by the shelves. It reminded me of my late granddad's sitting room sans his signature spiced, musky scent. 

Complimentary focaccia board. Woot.

I ordered the striploin sampler plate ($78) which features 175g cuts of their signature pieces: grain-fed Wagyu (ordered rare) and grass-fed Angus (ordered medium rare). It came with a pancetta and taleggio stuffed onion which I absolutely loved. Creamy, cheesy and warming sans the dreaded onion breath.

Some of you might know I'm not a massive fan of marbling but I thoroughly enjoyed the rare Wagyu piece in its MS6+ glory. It was soft to the knife, melt in your mouth, and perfectly seasoned.

I made a decent dent on the grass-fed Angus too. It was the leaner piece but was still super tender and perfectly seasoned. Admittedly, I thought I was going to love this more but the Wagyu was just so good!

We only ordered three sides but the portions were relatively big. I was excited about the mixed mushrooms ($13) but was disappointed as it was a bit underseasoned; charcoal grilled asparagus ($15) which were pretty straightforward and delicious; and Tuscan fries ($13) seasoned with salt and rosemary.

Plaid Boy ordered the Angus rib-eye ($58) which he happily enjoyed with a glass of  nero d'avola. I've forgotten the name, but he chose a better red paired with his food than I did.

The servers were all too nice and mindful: helpful enough to be at your beck and call and to answer your questions about the menu but also not too eager so as to invade your private time. 

Overall I liked BTS: good ambience, good wine selection, good steak. I'd recommend you visit when you find yourself craving for some meat in SG. Their cuts are best served with a date too ;)
