First, choose your drink. The jasmine green tea (£3.80 a pot) is always a good aromatic choice but they have heaps more to choose from if you fancied something bolder, spicier or creamier.
Next, choose your dessert. Last time we were there we ordered three beautiful chocolate-based yummies, all at £8.50 each.
First up is the sexiest cake I’ve seen. The idea of this banana peanut cake strangely reminds me of a single malt whisky/banana liqueur-based cocktail I’ve tried at Lab (the name escapes me now, unforch) but the taste… man! It’s a beautiful nutty almond joconde sponge (in leopard print!), served with some toasted bananas, banana sorbet and caramel dressing. I am not a caramel fan but was surprised by how it actually balanced the nutty-fruity flavours without making it sickeningly sweet.
The praline eclair is every profiterole/Nutella fiend’s dream of a thing. The gianduja ganache filling is smooth with a superb taste of hazelnut. Hints of lemon round the cake, with buttons topping the eclair and blobs of icing around. Served with chocolate ice cream, it’s deliciously rich and is such a dream.
The caramel walnut cake is something you should go for if you like salted caramel. It’s a sponge layered with some nutty concoction I can’t put a finger on. Served with mocha ice cream, topped with walnuts, tempered chocolate and specks of gold leaf.
Sure, they’re a bit pricey for standard sized desserts, but what can you expect from a Michelin-starred restaurant aye? Go give these treats a try anyway to see for yourself. Sit by the bar if you can.
