6 Tracks for June 2014

If I had a voice worthy of fronting the best of summer festivals you’d hear me belt ‘Here comes the sun / here comes the sun / and I say it’s alright’. Fortunately for you, I’ve fully accepted that my vocals are quite challenged so I’m keeping mum. I’m super feeling the heat, though. Summer is finally here (fingers crossed I don’t jinx it this time).

Klingande - Jubel
This song reminds me so much of the time when Hed Kandi Beach House artists and CDs were uso? I had the great opportunity of watching their saxophonist Lovely Laura live (I literally danced under her skirt) and it was good fun. This tune reminds me of those carefree days, as well as long hours on the beach with a coconut-based adult bev on hand. Good summer track, this one.

Lana del Rey - West Coast
I love how moody this track is. The first ten seconds make me feel all tingly and in dire need of something with a kick, with guitar notes giving you a bit of a tease. I love the sensuality of the verses, and the urgency of the pre-chorus and the breeziness of the chorus (which is totally reminiscent ofStevie Nicks’ Edge of Seventeen). Delicious ear candy.

Kelis - Hooch
Did you know that Kelis, who once declared her milkshake is better than yours (damn right), is a certified chef and graduate of Le Cordon Bleu? Teehee. She does have a passion for food and her latest album Food reflects this. I love the jazzy trip of this track. Sexy enough for poolside lounging yet very commercial, too

Tove Styrke - Even If I’m Loud It Doesn’t Mean I’m Talking To You
This track reminds me of cheerleading, top-down road trips and pumped work outs. There’s a lazy sort of aggression here. A bit cheeky, a bit scoffy, a bit rowdy. Smells like teen spirit? Possibly so.

Carousel - My New Friend
I love how sexy this track is without trying too much. After all, summer season = MOMOL season.
Whether you’ve found a new friend or rediscovered the old, stay safe people. Wear, uh, sunscreen 😉

Katy Perry - This Moment
This is the type of tune you kind of wish you wrote in high school because if this were a person, it’s the type you want to be BFFs with. I can imagine loads of young’uns playing this at a year-end gala, like senior prom or graduation. Such a crowd pleaser, just like the singer.

Haha, fantastic trivia tidbit there about Kelis! Maybe her milkshake really does bring all the boys to the yard! Thanks for introducing me to some great new songs - adding them to my summer playlist!

Thanks Tamsin! Glad you liked these. I do a monthly 6-track playlist, in case you want more tunes! 😉
