Isn’t it a wonder how Singapore has just celebrated its 50th year of independence? For a fast-developing country, that is incredibly amazing. I mean, come on the island is younger than my mother (and how my inner self feels, lol!)
As the country celebrates its 50th year, I can’t help but reminisce about the heapload of food I’ve consumed in the Lion City during my visits. There’s a fair share of good ones from fine dining spots but there’s also been some fantastic dishes that don’t go beyond £10/$10.
There are a lot of places to find these good cheap eats, too. I suppose that’s why I like going to Singapore, because there’s a whole lot to eat and the spectrum is marvellous: from the ubiquitous chicken rice to the requisite chilli crab to spicy laksa and fish ball noodles (which are both surprisingly good for brekkie served with kaya toast). There’s an abundance of cheap but good and fresh sushi and seafood and you can’t ever go wrong with trying out local favourites like oyster cake, rojak or my absolute favourite popiah. And if you ever need to cool out the hot hot heat, there’s a lot of fresh fruit juices to choose from.
I know. This is getting me hungry too.
Happy 50th, Singapore and cheers to the calories you’ve given (and will give) us all.

Loved this post! I adore Singapore and miss it so much. I haven't been back for almost eight years, which is a long time considering I used to go every two years as a kid! I can't even imagine how much it's changed since 2007. Desperate to go back next year on my way back to Aus!
