Roka Aldwych Sunday Han Setto Brunch

I have mad, mad, mad love for Roka Aldwych and I fell even more in love with the restaurant because they have the best Sunday menu in town. The Han Setto Brunch is a £39 deal for a whole lot of food and it's quality Japanese fare that's absolutely designed for the hungry.

By the way... don't let the "brunch" tag fool you. The menu is available all day.

Plus you get bellinis on arrival! For an extra £16 you get unlimited house vino but you can of course, get other options.

Your food journey commences with some salted edamame and Japanese pickles...

a salad of tomatoes...

a simple yet delicious spinach salad with sesame dressing...

Chef's sashimi selection (we had the usual maguro, sake & hamachi)...

Japanese style bacon and potato salad...

salmon & avocado maki and tempura & avocado maki...

a variety of tempura...

beef and ginger dumplings...

*PHEW*

Are you still with me?

Good.

For mains, you get to choose from the following options:

- yaki yasai moriawase / selection of vegetables from the robata
- sake teriyaki / salmon fillet teriyaki with sansho salt
- tai no miso-yaki / sea bream fillet, ryotei miso and red onion
- kobuta no ribs yawaraka nikomiyaki / glazed baby back ribs with cashew nuts
- hinadori no miso yaki / baby chicken, lemon, miso and garlic soy
- gyuhireniku no pirikara yakiniku /beef sirloin, chilli and spring onion
- kushi yaki moriawase / grilled skewer selection
- kinoko no kamemeshi /mushroom hot pot

I wasn't kidding when I said this menu is absolutely for the hungry.

And unlike those silly restaurants that give you meager portions for their special offers, Roka goes all out with their mains in full portions and full flavour. This, my friends, is such a bargain deal.

It was a no-brainer that we'd go for the carnivorous options. How could you say no to that spicy beef sirloin? Too good!

And Roka's sticky barbecue ribs are so bang on. Some people may not appreciate how super sticky that sauce is, but man it's so worth the bite!

The dessert platter is a feast for the sugar deprived.

Yoghurt parfait with a berry sorbet and some macerated strawbs. Deliciously light!

This happy Buddha has a sweet surprise for you...

His belly is filled with amazing mango compote that surprisingly works well with chocolate.

The Han Setto Brunch menu is available on Sundays at Roka Aldwych. Make sure to go with a huge appetite - or take me with you, I'll bring enough for us! ;)
