I’m not even going to deny it. I bloody love bubbly. Unless you’re giving me a good old barrel of whiskey (preferably from Japan - Yamazaki 18 to be precise), my tastebuds and alcoholic tolerance have now decided that my choice of tipple is champagne (Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque, s’il tu plait).
(Wow. That makes me sound like a proper alcoholic but believe you me I am not on any sort of denial stage. Besides why can’t we celebrate every waking and living life if #YOLO, non?)
Anyway. Last month was a very stressful downer. Whilst most of my girlfriends believe in the power of spas and beautification as a way to relax, I put my trust in the power of food and drink. One day, whilst my mind wandered into uncertainty, my stomach grumbled into a certain state of hunger. Not knowing where to go, I found myself walking until I found myself at The Northall Bar at the Corinthia Hotel.
It’s beautiful and elegant in its own right, with lighting that makes everyone look photoshopped and fixtures that makes you feel like you have a very expensive price tag on your back.
Even I would want to swing from that chandelieeeeeer… that chandelieeeeeeer.
The Northall Bar offers a variety of champagne flights featuring bubbly from Laurent-Perrier to Rothschild at a price range of £16 to £29. Considering you get three glasses of bubbles, that’s quite a good price for a hotel bar.
I opted for the Laurent-Perrier flight (£25) where you get an LP Brut, LP Rosé and an LP Vintage 2006. If you remember,
I went to James Court Hotel a few months back where I was treated to their own LP flight. The main difference, other than the £5 disparity, is that SJC’s vintage was from 2004. Though I much prefer the 2004, I genuinely think the ambience at the Corinthia makes up for it.

To line the stomach, some crispy salt and pepper squid with a yuzu aioli dip (£11). It wasn’t particularly fantastic as the batter had an inconsistency in texture but the squid tasted fresh.
Does that not look celebratory?
I really enjoyed my flight of bubbles and fizz at The Northall. The ambience was great and the bartenders were nice and polite. You can either go on your own and read the FT whilst drowning your sorrows away, or go with a friend to chat the night out about hair extensions or something. Fair enough, there are plenty of trendier/cooler/cheaper places to buy drink at but if you fancied a little bit of a break in lush surroundings, here’s one to go to.
