The Shore Currently: Well, hello 2016!

I hope everyone had a fantastic start to the year of the monkey! Hopefully, things will roll out better this 2016 than the way we rolled out of bed post-revelry hangover!
How did you celebrate the festive period? I spent Christmas with family and friends in Bournemouth where we ate and drank our way through Boxing Day. I’ve not been very festive this year but seeing relatives was heart-warming so I had a good time.
For New Year’s Eve, my friend B and I had tickets to a masquerade ball at a hotel in central London but we bounced in less than an hour as the event was rather bleak - such a waste of time and money!! Luckily, we managed to get into a club and found ourselves dancing in Wonderland at midnight before heading to Soho for nightcaps. I spent the first day of the new year sleeping like a cosy lil baby while sporadically catching up with friends all over the world. All in all, legendary.
A new year always feels like a fresh start. In line with that, I’m starting this series of “life lately” posts
on the blog in place of those Sunday Currently ones which, quite frankly, I
found hard to update due to its restrictive time frame. It still serves the same purpose, but now I’ll have more freedom to post all the random happy things whenever I can!
So here goes…
VISIT

I went to Bicester Village for purchases I’m justifying as “work essentials”. Shopping stresses me out so I only go when I really need something. Five hours in the village was more than plenty of time for retail therapy but what I actually enjoyed most was observing the shopping demographic and retail trends.

LOVE
Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, Magic Foundation and Vintage Vamp eye palette.

READ
A heap load of marketing briefs for the new job. I feel like I’ve been reading way too much serious stuff lately though - can someone recommend a decent quick, fun read?

WRITE
Schedules and goals on my new Passion Planner from D. I’m really keen to keep this pen-and-paper writing thing going on.

WATCH
I thought Star Wars: The Force Awakens was… not as great as the previous films. There. I’ve said it. Only because I really hoped for a more action and darkness! But I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Adam Driver (aka Adam from HBO’s Girls, aka best douchebag on TV) in one of the greatest film franchises, and Daisy Ridler is so adorbs.

I’ve just seen The Danish Girl over the weekend which was rather intense and emotional. What a life it must have been for Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener, I can only imagine the struggle they both went through individually and as a couple. That said, Eddie Redmayne is one hell of an actor - and a pretty one at that!

I’m also working my way through the first season of The Originals and the second season of American Horror Story. I’m not a huge fan of all things supernatural but there’s something quite compelling about these series that I’m enjoying.

LISTEN

AIM
1) To pass probation with flying colours. I find the new job challenging but I’m liking my colleagues as everyone’s very helpful!

2) To remember that weight lifting doesn’t involve lifting food from plate to mouth.

3) To buy a decent cookbook and actually use it, ie master five recipes by the end of this year.

Really loving Instagram right now. You can follow me here!

Truth is, all the hype of the year being new will die down eventually… but I guess the only way to go is to be ballsy about whatever it is that comes your way. Here’s to facing fears to up our gears; to no more tears and only cheers my dears.
Bring it on, 2016. I think we’re all ready for you.

Happy New Year, dear Honey! I am so jealous of your Bicester Village visit. I'd hoped to go with my mom when my family was over, but we ran out of time! I have spent years lusting over Charlotte Tilbury cosmetics and now that they've opened a shop in Covent Garden, I'll have to go in during lunchtime (after payday, that is)!!

I didn't realise they opened in Covent Garden just when I moved jobs! You're lucky!
And there's another reason to have your folks over (except surely outlet stores in the States are heaps cheaper and better?)
      Happy new year, Jaime! x
