Travel link-up: #travelbloggerproblems

We all have problems. And for those who have itchy feet, travel toes and blogging blues, we have #travelbloggerproblems. This month’s travel link up tries to explore all these conundrums we have when we’re geared with passports, cameras, and social media.

Here’s a few of what I’ve encountered.

1) Why sigh for wifi?

“What’s your wifi password?” is a question most bloggers ask because you know, we just have to update our blogs and social networks about our adventures. But also, data roaming services can rack up a massive hike on your phone bill so when you can milk free internet, why not?

2) The selfie-stick

When the selfie stick craze erupted in Asia, I cringed each time I saw people using them. But my parents, thinking I would need it for the blog, decided to send me one. I’ve tried it out once then gave it away.

But now I wish I didn’t because I have small arms and if I took a photo of me against, say, the Berlin wall, it would probs just look like me standing in front of a graffiti-ed wall in, say, East London.

3) My camera/battery pack is on its final legs!

Let’s face it. Bloggers depend a heap load on photos because one can paint a thousand words. Sometimes though, when you don’t take care of your cameras they end up not cooperating. Dodgy lens, ultra absorbed battery packs, weird flash, etc.

Yes, I’ve just kayaked around a beautiful island for an hour and here I am pulling up to shore for my sunset victory finish. Except you can’t really tell that’s me because my camera’s gone bonkers.

4) “Would you like me to take your photo for you so you can take mine?”

Handing your precious camera to someone means letting them take over creative direction for a couple of clicks and sometimes, it’s just not up to par. This happens a lot when you’re travelling solo or if you want to get a group shot with everyone in. You try to spot someone with a mega profesh cam thinking, “Ooooh, they probs take good photos” only to be disappointed.

Like you know, those who don’t give you any inkling that they’re taking your picture already so you end up either looking miserable or simply like you don’t want to be there.

Whatever happened to “One, two, three, say cheese!!!”?

Or those who just don’t care.

5) Outtakes, because it takes more than one shot to get the shot.

20 photos of food, 30 photos of a temple, 500 photos of the clouds whilst you’re on the plane.

When I do my jump shots, I don’t always get it right at first click. It gets a little bit embarrassing from time to time too: ie falling off a curb by Lake Geneva, landing on my face in Bournemouth, jumping 100 times in front of the Kasbah in Marrakech with locals pointing at the lunatic that is me, and once (or twice) landing with my boobs out at a beach in Philippines. Joy.

Then again, no matter how many issues we have, no matter how many bad photos we take, I firmly believe we live to explore.
