Hunter 486 at The Arch Hotel London

The Arch is a stone’s throw away from one of London’s landmarks, the Marble Arch. Spanning over seven townhouses and two mews homes, this quintissentially British luxury boutique hotel homes 82 cosy rooms and suites, a gym, a restaurant, and an array of private meeting rooms.

The Arch by The Girl Next ShoreI was really impressed with the aesthetics of the hotel itself but what I like most is the artwork. The Arch showcases commissioned artwork by emerging artists from all over the country. It felt like walking into a collector’s house.

Superior Room at The Arch

The hotel was fully booked when we got there but we were lucky enough to catch glimpse of one of The Arch’s Superior Rooms. The music was turned on when we entered, which felt like a nice welcome touch.

The room is cosy with individually decorated wallpaper. The queen bed takes centre stage and there’s enough room to pack your stuff away. Oh, and if you’re feeling a bit thirsty, soft drinks, water and juice in the mini bar are complimentary.

Entertainment includes flat screen TVs with Sky HD packages including sports and films, iPod docking and also fast Wi-Fi internet.

The bathroom is done up with heated anti-steam mirrors (so you can watch yourself doing whatever you do). And the toiletries are from MALIN + GOETZ. There’s a flat screen by the bath as well so you can watch your favourite jams whilst soaking in lush lather.

I mean, don’t you think it’s adorable? I do.

The Martini Library

The Martini Library is a really cool space where guests can chill for private functions. It can be booked for meetings, intimate canapé and cocktail receptions, or even events up to 50 guests. It’s rather hip and trendy with its laidback luxury feel.

And then it was time to eat!

But first, cocktails!

The Hunter 486 bar is quite a nice spot to enjoy signature cocktails and your favourite tipple. There’s a champagne lounge as well which you can book for bigger private parties.

Hunter 486 itself is rather pretty with its dark wood furnishings and open kitchen.

B and I opted to sit in one of the cosy booths which was perfect because we got to catch up and gossip without feeling like we were filling errbody in.

Complimentary bread

For starters, I opted for the marinated tuna with pickled baby vegetables (£9). I liked that the marinade on the tuna was subtle enough to let the tuna shine as is. The pickled veg gave it enough tang to boost up the flavours.

B’s starter of salt beef croquettes (£8) blew my mind. It was filled with a good amount of salt beef and the texture of the coating was just perfect. The horseradish mayo wasn’t overpowering either which meant one can appreciate the full flavour of the salt beef. This one was definitely a winner.


food was paired with two glasses of red. Puro Malbec-Cabernet 2014 for the croquettes and Flor de Campo Pinot Noir 2013 for the tuna. This was such a fantastic pairing. The Malbec brought an earthiness to the beef which made it taste richer, whilst the Pinot Noir lifted the tang on the pickled veggies.

I was rather impressed.

My main was a fillet of halibut (£21) served with salsify and an orange and chervil butter sauce. My fish was cooked and seasoned beautifully and I liked how it married well with the salsify. I thought the butter sauce could have done with a teeny bit of refinement but overall this was great.

This dish was paired with a glass of Sanford Chardonnay 2011 (£16.50) which was fresh and fantastic with this fish dish.

B ordered braised lamb (£19) shank for mains. Served with a rosemary mash, grilled aubergine, fennel and courgette slices, this was definitely a hearty dish. The lamb was beautifully soft and tender and the sauce was rather good. I thought the rosemary mash could’ve used a bit more butter for a creamier texture, though.

They paired the dish with a glass of Vina Real Rioja Gran Reserva 2005 (£14.25) and this really paired well, too.

For sides, we had some sweet potato fries and sautéed spinach.

B’s dessert was a light marscapone sorbet (£6.50) served with orange segments, pomegranate and sugared almonds. Paired with a great moscatel, this was a nice refreshing finish after a hearty main.

As for me… it’s chocolate, of course.

The chocolate fondant (£6.50) came with a salted caramel ice cream and a sliver of peanut brittle. This was comprised of everything I’ve ever loved growing up so I prayed to all the choccy gods that this fondant would be as ooey and gooey as it can be.

And OH MY LORD. It was. And it tasted fantastic too, especially with the port they paired it with.


Overall, I think The Arch London is a fantastic 5-star boutique hotel that needs more credit. I like how its understated luxury setting reflects how cool and classy it is. I’d totally recommend it for people visiting London for the first time, so they can try something quintessentially British.

Its restaurant, Hunter 486 is a gem of a place. The food is straightforward and there are real gems on the menu. The cocktails were great but what I was really impressed by was their ability to pair wines with their food. Service was great, too.

    I think the hotel looks just adorable too!! And look at how that chocolate is just oozing out of the fondant. Food looks fabulous!

      It’s very quaint and cosy and just lovely, ain’t it? It’s so pretty! And yes that choccy fondant was super good!
