I like PAUL. Their viennoiserie and coffee combo used to be my morning staple. It’s also been a dependable patisserie for when I need an emergency cake for any sort of celebration. And during the rare times I crave for baguettes for lunch, it’s the place I’d run to. Needless to say, I can rely on this bakery to deliver whenever, wherever.
They’ve recently launched a range of Christmas treats which I think would be perfect to gift your foodie buddies with this season. From specially crafted Bûches de Noël to mini festive-flavoured macaroons and freshly-baked shortbread shooting stars, PAUL has captured the very essence of Christmas eating and entertaining.
Z and I went to PAUL’s Christmas range product launch which took place in their Tower 42 restaurant. It’s one of their only two restaurants in London, the other one being in Covent Garden.
With champagne free-flowing and the smell of gingerbread and cinnamon around, it definitely felt like Christmas!
I was particularly impressed by the Bûches de Noël. They looked as authentic as those I’ve eaten and seen in France. I genuinely loved the La Delicieuse, a layered cake of gingerbread Speculoos biscuit, vanilla cream and sweet raspberry puree. But my favourite was the L’Intense which is pure indulgence. It’s PAUL’s alternative to a chocolate log and is the choice for choccy fiends. The cakes are on the £30 which I think is a pretty good deal, non?
PAUL’s Christmas range also features treats for entertaining. Whether you have a house party, or a mini office party, there’s a lot of food for sharing.
The party bread box (£35) was rather cool. Slices of sammies are stacked inside ready to be shared with guests. You can opt for ham and cheese, smoked salmon and cream cheese, or vegetarian.
PAUL’s platter of mini-croques and quiches (£19) is perfect for potluck mini celebrations.
And I am looking forward to having their Christmas turkey sandwich (£4.50) for lunch. I hate turkey, I’m not big on sandwiches, but when Z and I bit into these, it actually felt like Christmas morning. Really enjoyed this one, folks.
The Christmas tree bread (£6.50) was pretty yummy and moreish, too. It’s a nice piece to share around as well.
Stocking fillers include their exclusive Rennes the reindeer chocolate, shortbread biscuit trees, shortbread stars, festive baubles, even perhaps… vouchers for a breadmaking masterclass!
There’s also a pretty tight hamper - because what is Christmas without hamper pressies - that go for £35. And if you fancied a nice advent calendar for your desk, their Christmas tree shaped one retails for £19.
