The Westin Excelsior is definitely oneone of Rome’s most gorgeous and prestigious hotels.
This luxury hotel sits on Via Veneto and has been a historical favourite of international stars of film, music, culture, art and society long before this street has become fashionable.
In fact, Via Veneto wouldn’t have been so popular if not for the construction of the hotel despite pending troubles in the First World War. The Westin Excelsior’s building actually has led to the opening of celebrity-flooded establishments within the area.
Rooms and Amenities
The hotel has 316 guest rooms, 281 of which are Grand Luxe and De Luxe rooms and 35 of which are special suites, one of which is Villa La Cupola, one of the biggest and most important suites in Europe. Located on the fifth and sixth floors of the hotel, it has a beautiful living room, a private kitchen, private Dolby-surround cinema, private fitness room, sauna, steam bath and a Pompeian style Jacuzzi pool.
I didn’t actually stay here, but check out the terrace! Ain’t it grand?
The cupola is entirely hand frescoed following the same traditional technique used in creating Roman masterpieces. You’re truly gonna be living the Roman dream when you stay here.
The Westin Excelsior also has a WestinWorkout and Kamispa Wellness Center which includes a pool, sauna, Turkish bath, gym and massage treatments.
Restaurant Doney
As Via Veneto is in the business district area, The Westin Excelsior’s restaurant, Restaurant Doney is quite a popular choice for business lunches and meetings.
The external terrace is quite the place to be “seen” or to hang around to see those who want (or not want) to be seen. Back in the day, paparazzi and fans would dine here whilst waiting for artists, actors, and socialites coming out of the hotel.
The restaurant offers an array of healthy but super tasty dishes buffet-style for lunch at €38. Isn’t that great? There’s also a fresh pasta station where you can ask for any type of pasta cooked with any sauce of your liking. On Sundays, they offer a SuperChefs Brunch, the signature Westin program entirely dedicated to healthy food. The menu shows the dishes signed by Mario, winner of Junior MasterChef Spain 2013.
Next door to the restaurant is Cafe Doney, a more relaxed but contemporary bar area. It has its own Grom cart, serves pastries and drinks and snacks. The decor is super cool and a little more casual than the restaurant.
ORVM Bar
ORVM is The Westin Excelsior’s resident bar. Its art deco-meets-baroque design sets a really refined and sophisticated ambience welcoming the cream of the crop. It’s a stunning spot to enjoy libations or tea or just to people watch. Definitely my type of place!
The Westin Excelsior is definitely THE place you want to stay at when you visit Rome. The location is fantastic and the service? Out of this world. The place itself is sophisticated, chic, and screams true Italian glam with much culture. Seriously, this is the perfect place to stay for your perfect Roman holiday!
